Deep Hamburger Sausage & Pepperoni Pie

  • Author: David

Description

This deep hamburger sausage and pepperoni pie is a hearty, savory dish that eats like a meaty, cheesy casserole inside a pie crust. Layers of seasoned ground beef, Italian sausage, and spicy pepperoni are baked under a golden crust with rich tomato sauce and gooey cheese throughout. It’s comfort food at its finest, perfect for family dinners or game day gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

1 pound ground beef
½ pound Italian sausage, casing removed
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup pizza or marinara sauce
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Salt and pepper to taste
1 deep-dish pie crust, homemade or store-bought
1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
½ cup sliced pepperoni
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 egg, lightly beaten for egg wash

Instructions

1 Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
2 In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, sausage, and chopped onion until browned and cooked through, breaking up the meat as it cooks. Drain excess grease.
3 Add the garlic, pizza sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Simmer for 5 to 7 minutes to allow the flavors to combine and the mixture to thicken slightly.
4 Place the pie crust in a deep 9-inch pie dish and press it gently into the sides. Spoon half of the meat mixture into the crust, then sprinkle with half of the mozzarella cheese and half of the pepperoni.
5 Repeat with the remaining meat, cheese, and pepperoni, then top with grated Parmesan.
6 Brush the exposed edges of the crust with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
7 Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until the filling is bubbly and the crust is golden brown.
8 Let the pie rest for 10 minutes before slicing to allow the filling to set.

Notes

You can use a mix of mild and spicy sausage for a flavor boost. A layer of ricotta cheese can be added between the meat layers for a creamier texture. Customize with olives, bell peppers, or mushrooms for a pizza-style twist. This pie keeps well in the fridge for up to three days and reheats nicely in the oven or microwave. Perfect for slicing and packing for lunches or serving with a simple side salad.
