Ingredients
- For the Skillet:
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 pound ground beef
- ½ yellow or sweet onion, diced
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 green bell pepper, stem and seeds removed, diced
- 8 ounces elbow macaroni (uncooked)
- 1 cup water
- 14.5-ounce can beef broth (or 2 cups beef broth)
- For the Cheese Sauce:
- ½ cup 2% milk
- 2 ounces cream cheese, cubed
- ½ cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 6–8 ounces provolone cheese, sliced and torn into pieces
- For Garnish:
- Chopped fresh parsley
Instructions
1️⃣ Cook the beef and onion: Heat olive oil in a 12-inch skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and diced onion. Cook until the beef is browned and no longer pink, and the onions are soft and translucent. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
2️⃣ Add seasoning and pasta: Stir in Worcestershire sauce, green bell pepper, elbow macaroni, water, and beef broth. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat.
3️⃣ Simmer: Reduce heat to low, cover the skillet, and simmer for 15 minutes. Check occasionally to ensure the pasta is fully cooked and most of the liquid has been absorbed or evaporated.
4️⃣ Prepare the cheese sauce: Keeping the skillet over low heat, stir in ½ cup milk and cubed cream cheese. Continue stirring until the cream cheese has melted and the sauce is smooth.
5️⃣ Add the cheeses: Remove the skillet from the heat. Sprinkle mozzarella and half of the provolone cheese into the pasta and stir to combine.
6️⃣ Melt the topping: Top with the remaining provolone cheese and cover the skillet with a lid. Let it sit for 2–3 minutes, allowing the provolone to melt completely.
7️⃣ Garnish and serve: Sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley before serving.
Notes
- Meat Substitutions: Substitute ground beef with ground turkey, chicken, or thinly sliced steak for a different twist.
- Pasta Options: Use shells, rotini, or penne if elbow macaroni isn’t available.
- Vegetable Variations: Feel free to add mushrooms or red bell peppers for extra flavor.
- Make it Spicy: Add crushed red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce for some heat.
