Description
These homemade Pizza Hut-style breadsticks bring the iconic flavor and soft, chewy texture of the original right to your kitchen. Coated in a buttery garlic seasoning and served with marinara sauce, they’re perfect as a snack, appetizer, or side to your favorite pasta or pizza night.
Ingredients
For the dough:
1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
1 tablespoon sugar
1 cup warm water (110°F)
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons olive oil
For the topping:
3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
1 teaspoon salt
Instructions
In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
Add the flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Mix and knead until a soft dough forms, about 5–7 minutes by hand or 3–4 minutes in a stand mixer.
Cover and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
Punch down the dough and press it evenly into the prepared pan. Use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to score the dough into breadstick shapes.
Mix together the melted butter, garlic powder, onion powder, and Italian seasoning. Brush half of the mixture over the dough.
Bake for 18–22 minutes or until golden brown.
Brush the breadsticks with the remaining butter mixture immediately after baking and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and salt.
Let cool slightly before re-cutting along the scored lines and serving.
Notes
Serve with warm marinara or garlic dipping sauce for an authentic experience. For extra crispiness, bake the scored breadsticks on a pizza stone or preheated metal baking sheet. You can also refrigerate the dough overnight for even more flavor and a more developed texture.
