  • Author: Christophe
  • Total Time: 50 minutes

Description

This classic spaghetti with meat sauce is hearty, flavorful, and easy to prepare. With tender ground beef simmered in a rich tomato sauce, it’s a comforting dish perfect for weeknight dinners or family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

For the meat sauce:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

For the pasta:

  • 1 lb spaghetti
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the base:
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté for 3-4 minutes, or until the onion is soft and fragrant.

2️⃣ Cook the meat:
Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it into small pieces with a spoon. Drain any excess grease if necessary.

3️⃣ Build the sauce:
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and tomato paste. Mix until well combined.

4️⃣ Season:
Add the dried basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir thoroughly to incorporate the spices.

5️⃣ Simmer:
Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. This allows the flavors to meld together beautifully.

6️⃣ Cook the spaghetti:
While the sauce is simmering, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

7️⃣ Assemble and serve:
Plate the cooked spaghetti and ladle the meat sauce generously over the top. Optionally, sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese before serving.

Notes

  • Customize the flavor: Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a hint of spice, or a splash of red wine for deeper flavor.
  • Make it heartier: Include diced carrots, celery, or bell peppers when sautéing the onions.
  • Storage: Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat on the stove or in the microwave.
